BLACK LIVES MATTER

I have consolidated some of the great resources and opportunities that I’ve seen shared via social media over the last few days.

Progress has definitely been made over the last few weeks, but there’s still so much more to be done… let’s do what we can.

Educate Yourself

Here is a list of resources that I’ve commonly seen are great reference points. I’m no expert, but this is my attempt at credible consolidation.

For those interested in Portland, I’d recommend following @rosecityjustice.

Support Black-Owned Business

This is a great opportunity to support local Black-owned businesses. There’s a ton of different directories —

In Portland:
Here is a Directory of Portland Black-Owned Eateries

In North America (+ more):
Here is an article that lists hundreds of Black-owned businesses across the continent, in addition to select few that are in Europe (although we know there are thousands more).

Quick Action

EMAIL

Writing a personal email to your relevant lawmakers makes it much harder for their filters to vet out as a duplicate, therefore the receiving party is much more likely to actually have to read what you have to say. However, if you don’t have time much time there is also a templated email below.

1)

Local and Personal

Email your local city and state representatives to demand the change you want to see whether that’s demilitarizing the police, reallocating budgets, justice for past wrong-doings, or anything else.
Message recipients: Your state senator and representative.

2)

Breonna Taylor

This is a templated email. (Est. Time: <1 min)
All you need to do is add your [NAME] and [CITY/STATE] where instructed.

SIGN PETITIONS

Est. Time: 1 min

1)
Civil rights group Color of Change launched a petition asking that all the officers involved in Floyd’s death are brought to justice.

2)
The “Justice for George Floyd” petition on Change.org already has 14 million supporters.

3)
The “Justice for Breonna Taylor” petition on Change.org has 2.5 million supporters. Join in.
